Position Description:

The Program Manager is part of the full-time management team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The role requires working collaboratively with the Executive Director and Operations Manager. The role mandates responsibility for setting the tone for the rest of the programming staff to ensure the mission of promoting, engaging, and facilitating cultural and community development opportunities between artists, arts organizations, and the community. The Program Manager plays a crucial role in creating accessible arts spaces, arts programming, and arts services within the former City of York. The successful candidate will be responsible for fully animating our two locations (5 Bartonville Rd E. and 34 John St.) and partner sites with arts-based programs and services for artists and the broader community. The Program Manager becomes a leader and representative of the organization, managing youth and community engagement to ensure we have strong outreach and meet the needs of the community and artists.

Primary Responsibilities:

•Report directly to the Executive Director

•Lead the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of arts programming and services

•Fully animate our two locations with arts-based programming that serves the needs of the community and artists

•Work with leadership to establish goals and objectives for programming

•Build an inclusive and welcoming environment in all lead and partner programs

•Engage and manage youth & adult leaders (staff, placement students, summer staff, and volunteers) in program

•Develop, launch, monitor, and report on programs with partner agencies

•Manage and lead programming staff to ensure meaningful and consistent programming

•Ensure supplies are available for all programming activities

•Initiate and lead community outreach through partners, schools, in-person and digital outreach

•Ensure programs are well attended through design and outreach

•Actively contribute to program/project enrolment, intake, participation and attendance

•Maintain contact with artists, facilitators and staff to ensure program delivery needs are met

•Play a key role in the planning and management of special events

•Identify needs and trends in the community to develop reflective programming practices

•Coordinate and provide information to be used on Social Media

•Attend and organize meetings within the organization and with key partner agencies

•Provide substantial input to the budget to ensure programming needs are met

•Maintain accurate records and reports

•Track and manage program funding for reporting purposes

•Track and report on all programs for granting purposes

•Support grant writing within the organization by providing data and programming content

•Engage in other duties as required or as may be assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

•Expertise in arts program planning and delivery

•Enthusiasm for working with youth, residents, and seniors

•Knowledge of York – South Weston, especially Weston and Mount Dennis is an asset

•Firsthand experience as an artist, musician, or curator is an asset

•Knowledge of audio/visual equipment is an asset

•Proficiency in the Adobe Suite or Canva is an asset

•Knowledge of the Local Arts Service Organizations (LASO) and arts-based grants is an asset

UrbanArts is a progressive, not-for-profit charitable Local Arts Service Organization (LASO) providing opportunities for diverse cultural expression, artistic development, training and employment to members of urban communities with a focus on youth within the former City of York boundaries, with a focus on York South-Weston. UrbanArts focuses on engaging community through the arts. It is an incubator for local arts, with a range of programs led by professional artists in visual, literary, digital, culinary and media arts, theatre, dance and music. Working Conditions

The Program Manager works in an office setting at the Bartonville or the John Street location; although, there are times the incumbent will be off-site at facilities operated by other organizations, but in the community as necessary to the role. Hybrid work is a possibility.

While most of the responsibilities will take place during regular operating hours (9:00 am – 9:00 pm) on weekdays, there will be occasions when evening and/or weekend duties can be scheduled.
